If you haven’t checked your newsfeed lately then you may have missed the many reports that are being published having to do with deaths from the usage of e-cigs and/or vape cartridges. According to the CDC, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, “…As of September 6, 2019, over 450 possible cases of lung illness associated with the use of e-cigarette products have been reported to CDC from the following 33 states and 1 U.S. territory: AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MT, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.” 6 deaths have been confirmed.

The CDC has also stated that there is no evidence of infectious diseases; therefore the lung illnesses being reported are likely associated with chemical exposure. The current CDC investigation has not identified any specific substance or e-cigarette product that is linked to all cases but, many patients report using e-cigarette products, or vape cartridges, with liquids that contain cannabinoid products, such as THC(tetrahydrocannabinol).

In Tennessee, a story was run by NBC News telling the public of a teenage boy who was hospitalized from using an e-cigarette. Michael Siegel, Boston University School of Public Health professor from the Department of Community Health Sciences, has pointed out, in a different article, that the teenage boy was using an illicit THC vape cart. In the article, the boy says, “You buy these from people off the streets. Anywhere. You can find these anywhere. People make these. They put, what I’ve heard, butane, lighter fluid, other chemicals, and stuff inside of the these.”

This is why users must buy from a reputable, fully-licensed cannabis retail dispensaries. Those dispensaries can only receive cannabis products that have gone through rigorous testing that ensures it has zero pesticides, zero metals, and zero additives. As for the products that we carry, our purchasing department put their best efforts into buying from brands that have testing results on their product and is up to date with state standards. We make sure we partner with brands that are going to give us the best, most clean, and of the highest-quality cannabis products in the state.

If they’re from out of state, we verify that they are adhering to state standards and test requirements. For instance, Orchid is an out-of-state brand that manufactures vape cartridges and they too are keeping close eyes on the recent issue. A letter from their founders was released just recently explaining their concern and notifying their customer base that their product is safe. It is these kinds of brands we get behind because Monterey Bay Alternative Medicine is, and always will be, the place to educate and provide our community with safe, knowledgeable, and friendly access to the highest quality cannabis products.

Himalaya isn’t the only brand that we carry that have put out PSA regarding the current vape issue. Here are links to some recent announcements(Some statements were directly emailed to us):

Loudpack:

To Our Valued Customer,
In light of the recent news regarding the quality and safety of certain vaping products, we wanted to assure you that Loudpack has not, nor will it ever, dilute its products with additives such as medium-chain triglyceride (MCT), vegetable glycerine (VG), propylene glycol (PG or PPG), Vitamin E Acetate, oil thickeners, oil thinners or vitamin oils.

In fact, every month, Loudpack spends tens of thousands of dollars on individually testing its medical-grade products by an independent state-licensed lab. We also employ a team of scientists and engineers, who work diligently around the clock to ensure the safety, quality and purity of all of our products, and we fully stand behind them.

We encourage any consumer, who may have any questions when considering purchasing one of our products to request a State Certificate of Analysis (CoA) from licensed dispensaries that carry our products in California. All of our COAs will clearly list the ingredients in the product and will confirm that it has met all state requirements.

In addition, as some of you may be aware, our award-winning Kingpen brand has unfortunately become the target of counterfeiters. This is why at Hall of Flowers later this month, we will unveil an unprecedented Counterfeit Prevention Program aimed at combating illegal bad actors, who have tried to falsely impersonate our products, along with a fun, new program that rewards you for your loyalty.

As always, we appreciate your continued support and business as we blaze the frontier of the cannabis movement together. For more information, please https://www.loudpack.com/.
